Frequently asked questions:
Just what is AOT?
Answer:
AOT combines the advantages of optical inspection with the logic of electrical test to give a system that will find all faults on printed circuit boards
Can Lloyd Doyle AOT machines optically test any type of pcb with reference to CAM data?
Answer:
Yes, all machines from Lloyd Doyle can use a CAM generated reference file for optical test. Furthermore, this file can be generated on any proprietary CAM station for any type of pcb image.
What type of throughput can I expect from a Lloyd Doyle system?
Answer:
Lloyd Doyle supply systems in a complete range from prototype application through to high volume production.
For example, an entry level system can scan in the region of 90 sides of 18" x 24" circuit in an hour whereas one of the high volume systems can scan up to 215 sides of the same size in the same time.
What is a netlist?
Answer:
The netlist contains functional information about the connectivity of the circuit image of the layer being inspected in the form of "x" and "y" coordinates.
Why is a netlist based AOT system better than regular AOI?
Answer:
The netlist based AOT system will always outperform conventional AOI when it comes to finding faults on pcb images. This is because the AOT system is designed around the connectivity of the pcb, and is programmed to identify areas where the connectivity of the scanned panel does not agree with the data reference, rather like a test system; it cannot be fooled or make a false call. AOI systems on the other hand use rather more general rules for finding faults and as such can never be as good as AOT by design.
Does Lloyd Doyle have a CAM link?
Answer:
Yes, a CAM reference is obtained in the form of a "per layer" netlist extracted from any CAM station. All AOT systems were designed to run with the netlist as the fault reference from the outset.
Does Lloyd Doyle offer after sales service?
Answer:
Yes, Lloyd Doyle provides flexible options to after sales support, they can provide full annual service contract options.
Why is AOT different than other inspection systems?
Answer:
AOT offers a connectivity based inspection using the same logic as electrical test, ensuring the integrity of the inspection. In this way, AOT systems act like elecrtrical test machine and give you a GO / NOGO type of result unlike conventional AOI machines which tend to give a result full of false alarms
